Kid’s Driver’s License and Test (for bikes)

We were at Legoland this week and my children wanted to ride the electric cars. Before a child was allowed in the car, their picture was taken for a “Driver’s License”. Upon receiving this Driver’s License (which was nothing more than a business card with some blanks), my youngest son’s entire demeanor changed. He felt responsible and trusted. He wanted to make sure he obeyed each and every rule because he had been entrusted with this license. This small card was the highlight of his day and really boosted his ego.

You never know what is going to click with children. This license did, so I decided to use it for my benefit. I created a “Driver’s License Safety Test”Kid's Driver's License and Test - Your child takes a simple "driver's safety test" and then receives their own printable Driver's License. Great way to teach responsibility. [the House of Hendrix}

If a child passes, they will be rewarded aDriver’s License for bikes and scooters“.  It’s proof that they know the safety rules of riding a bike/ scooter. They understand the license can be revoked if a rule is not followed. To have your very own Driver’s License can be a rite of passage, a step up in responsibility which develops confidence.

It is a great tool if a child is receiving a new bike or scooter. The license can represent the responsibility that comes with it. It is exciting. The expectations are clear.  Happy Riding! Kid's Driver's License and Test - Your child takes a simple "driver's safety test" and then receives their own printable Driver's License. Fireworks of the Heart

Fireworks of the Heart

The simple gesture I use to communicate to my children what's happening in me when I catch them being kind, loving and tender. (the House of Hendrix)

  • It’s that feeling I get when my son wakes me in the morning with soft kisses across my face…in the shape of a heart.
  • It stirs when I overhear one of my children telling another “I love you”.
  • It’s as simple as a sweet voice calling me ‘Mamma” instead of “Mom”.

These are the moments that move me. My children delight when it’s happening.

I pat my heart twice saying ‘Fireworks’ and they smile knowing exactly what that means.

Fireworks is how I’ve describe to my children the celebration taking place in my soul when I catch them in a moment. It’s a quick burst of joy which makes me thankful I get to be their mommy. So with a pat to my chest and a coyly uttered ‘Fireworks’, my children know they have unintentionally lit the spark.

During these long winter days often filled with fighting and whining, I celebrate those priceless moments which make it all worth it; I celebrate the Fireworks of my Heart.

Great is thy Father’s Love

great photos celebrating a Father's loveWhen I was younger, I was a Daddy’s little girl. My father was my hero and I knew I was his princess. He could do no wrong and I’m certain he felt the same towards me. He knew all of my imperfections yet his love covered over them all. To him, I was perfect. Still am.

This Father’s Day we celebrate that love a man has for his child- a love that is sacrificial and generous. It’s protective and forgiving. It can be misguided but filled with intention. A father’s love is not perfect because we are not perfect. Thankfully, like my dad’s love made me blameless in his eyes, God’s love not only covers the imperfections of our fathers but fills the voids where our dad’s failed. We have a father above who is perfect and loves us completely, just as we are. So as we celebrate our dads this Father’s Day, let us do so with grace and mercy, compassion and thanksgiving. And to my own father, I say thank you for teaching me what it feels like to be unconditionally loved.
