My daughter has fallen in love with running. She runs cross country, track, and 5k’s around town. She saves each and every Bib number.
I wanted to give her something special for Christmas. I wanted it to inspire her passion. So I made her a plaque to keep her bib numbers on.

Supplies: (amazon affiliate links provided for your convenience and clarification)
- Wood
- Paint – (I used this kind of paint here in a pretty blue)
- Paintbrush
- Vinyl lettering or stencils
- 2 screw hooks – like these
- ribbon for hanging.
I found a piece of wood in the garage and painted it with 2 coats of her favorite color of blue.
Choose a saying, verse, inspirational quote, or simply write RACE, RUN BIBS, or FINISHER. My daughter chooses a verse before each race and often picks Hebrews 12:1, so I used that.
I cut the letters in about 3 minutes from my Silhouette machine from of pink and white vinyl sheets.
Pick the background vinyl away from the letters so that your letters will be the only thing on the sheet.
You can buy vinyl on Amazon here .
If you don’t have a cutting machine, you have a few options.
- Use stencils to trace and cut letters out of vinyl.
- Use stencils and paint the letters on the wood.
- Buy vinyl sticker letters ready to go like these.
Take a piece of contact paper and lay the sticky side on top of your vinyl letters. Transfer it to the contact paper by rubbing a credit card on top of it. When you peel it, the letters should now be on the contact paper with their sticky back exposed.
Center the quote on the wood plaque and lay the contact paper down sticky side down. Use a credit card to transfer the lettering to the wood plaque.
Screw in some white metal hooks onto the plaque to hang a bib. I used a bib number to space out the screws. I added a separate hook on the side to hang metals from.
Staple a ribbon to the back so that it is easily hung.
Before each run, my daughter writes on her hand “Run with Joy”. Her coach instilled in her, Run with Joy or don’t run. So we made a little plaque for her bathroom.
